Who We Are
Canopy provides tree planting and management services to farmers and landowners in the Midwest. We establish perennial crops, timber plantings, conservation practices, and integrated agroforestry systems. We combine expert staff, thoughtful design, and a mobile fleet of state-of-the-art farm equipment to cost-effectively establish and manage profitable, diverse, and resilient agroecological systems. Canopy’s initial operational hubs are located in Champaign, IL and Spring Green, WI.
In an effort to overcome the major bottleneck in the supply of high quality plant material, Canopy also operates a plant nursery out of our WI hub. The nursery produces a wide range of perennial plants, with an emphasis on productive tree crops such as chestnut, walnut, pecan, hazelnut, heartnut, persimmon, pawpaw, black currant, and elderberry. Check back soon to reserve trees for 2022 once our nursery page goes live.
Canopy launched in 2022 in close partnership with the Savanna Institute, a non-profit research and education organization focused on tree-based regenerative agriculture. We continue to work closely with the Savanna Institute to ensure that our work leverages the latest science, state-of-the-art methods, and the most advanced tree genetics.
A Purpose-Driven Company
Canopy embodies an innovative ownership structure in which the majority of our profits are distributed to:
- Non-profit entities supporting the widespread adoption of perennial agriculture and other natural climate solutions in the US, including the Savanna Institute
- Our employees, regardless of their role on our team, bucking an age-old trend in the agricultural sector to forget the workers at the foundation of our agricultural system.
